Why windsurfing?

Hi there!

My name is Krista Karik. Below is outlined my journey of becoming a windsurfing instructor.

I find that the transformation from a person being terrified of water to a passionate windsurfer, describes my journey best. The sea did not seem appealing at all: it’s cold and deep, I can’t really swim and my hair gets wet. Scary, yet despite all, the sea and the wind have become best friends since 2007.

My favourite windsurfing places in Estonia are Püünsi, Laulasmaa and Topu. Abroad, I find Kefalos, Kos and Bahia de Formas in Grand Canaria to be the sweetest spots so far. But so many places remain do be discovered.

Why did I become a windsurfing instructor?
Windsurfing is a passion, love and most of all, a lifestyle. Passion and love are meant to be shared, it’s as simple as that!

Timeline

DIPLOMI became a windsurfing instructor in 2012 and since then, I’ve been constantly learning new things each day.

In the years 2013-2014 I completed training sports basics theory courses, levels 3, 4 and 5 at Tallinn University.

In May 2014, I became one of the six officially trained beginners’ course instructors in Estonia.

In January 2015, I completed the ISAF racing rules of sailing course at the Estonian Yahting Union and in April, I tok part in the Race Secretary course.

Since 2014, I have been managing the Estonian magazine Surf, I am the official surfing instructor of Surf Camp (Surfilaager) and the organizer of “Surf Days on the Vormsi island” (“Vormsi Surfipäevad”).

All of this does not make me a professional, there is always more to learn!

If you’d like to be a part of all this, take a look at my courses, blog and news and surfing trips.

See you on the sea!
